Giclée has become a very popular term in the field of Fine Art Reproduction these days. It is not at all suprising considering the excellent results that are possible with the most recent 7-color printers now available. A Giclée print is basically a high-resolution inkjet print on a fine-art substrate such as canvas or watercolr paper that has been fine-tuned to match an original piece of art.

Here at Klein & Ulmes Inc., we work closely with the customer to achive as close a match as possible to the original piece. We use an Epson 9600 wide format printer with Ultrachome archival inks for its high resolution, wide color gamut and archival qualities. Each piece is treated with a UV protective and an abrasion resistant waterproof coating to further protect your valuable artwork.

The process usually begins with scanning an original piece directly with our Betterlight scanning camera. However, we can work from supplied copy tranparencies or customer supplied digital files as well. Next, one of our expeienced technicians will adjust the file to provide as close a match to the original as a calibrated monitor will allow and then print a proof print on a 12"x18" sheet of the desired media. At that time we will compare the proof with the original along with the customer at our facility or ship the proof to the customer for their input or approval. After a proof is approved by the customer we will proceed with final printing. Finally, the file will be archived for future printing. These approved output files will be available to the customer for future reprints at reduced pricing.
